Beating at approximately 70 beats/minute, the human heart continuously circulates blood around our body. This blood carries the proteins and nutrients required for a healthy, functioning body. Without a working heart, sustained living would be difficult- and in reality, there are hundreds of thousands of people who suffer from heart defects and diseases, which hamper the heart's ability to function. Depending on the condition, if left untreated, an individual's life is at risk.
